HSS T5 is 18%Tungsten based high speed tool steel with 9.5% Cobalt mixture. One step ahead than HSS T4, HSS T5 has LETHAL combination of 9.5% Cobalt & 18% Tungsten making it best material to cut applications where have high hardness and strength. The mixture of cobalt and tungsten makes this tool steel stand different from Moly based grades. Many users buy this material since they have a job for cutting high strength alloy carbon steel.
It has High Toughness and good cutting properties. With 18% tungsten & 9.5% Co it is finest effective high-speed steel grade based on W & Co, with high resistance to wear, red hardness and toughness.
Cutting parameters which has high tensile strength, Tungsten in this tool steel makes it easy to cut them - hardness upto 63-66 HRC post heat treatment.

Elements in HSS properties:
Standard grade for High Speed Steels; owing to its balanced composition has good toughness and cutting performance.
- Cobalt : : HSS containing cobalt content is a high performance steel with good cutting capability & ensures high red hardness and tempering retention. It is particularly suitable in thermal stress situations and for intermittent cutting.
- Tungsten : improve red hardness, retention of hardness and high temperature strength of the matrix, form special carbides of great hardness.
- Vanadium: forms special carbides of supreme hardness, increases high temperature wear resistance, retention of hardness and high temperature strength of the matrix.
- Chromium: promotes depth hardening, produces readily soluble carbides.
